Etsy Fees for Print-on-Demand Sellers in 2026: The Complete Breakdown

Why fees matter more in print-on-demand
In print-on-demand your production cost is fixed per item, so every point of fees comes straight out of a margin that is already thinner than in handmade goods. Knowing exactly which fee is charged on what is the difference between a product that pays and one that quietly loses money.
This guide lists every fee in Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy that applies to a typical POD sale. The rates below were checked against Etsy's own policy pages on October 6, 2026. Etsy can change them, so treat your payment account as the final word.
The fees on every sale
Listing fee: $0.20
You pay $0.20 when a listing is published, whether or not it sells. A listing stays live for four months and then renews automatically at $0.20 unless you switch renewals to manual. If a listing has more than one in stock, Etsy renews it for another $0.20 each time one sells, so a buyer ordering three of the same shirt triggers $0.60 in listing fees. Editing a listing is free.
Transaction fee: 6.5%
Etsy charges 6.5% of the price you display plus the shipping and gift wrap you charge. If you sell from the US, it is not charged on sales tax. Outside the US it applies to the listing price, which should already include any tax you are responsible for. Optional paid personalization counts as part of the price.
Payment processing fee: depends on your bank's country
This is charged on the full sale amount, including tax and shipping. The rate depends on where the bank account that receives your Etsy Payments deposits is located. A few examples from the Etsy Payments Policy:
- United States: 3% + $0.25
- United Kingdom: 4% + £0.20
- Germany: 4% + €0.30
- Canada: 3% + CA$0.25
- Turkey: 6.5% + 14 TRY
Some markets also have a small fixed deposit fee when a payout is under a set threshold.
Fees that only apply sometimes
Offsite Ads: 15% or 12%, capped at $100
Etsy buys ads for listings on other sites. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and orders from your shop within 30 days, you pay an advertising fee on that order: 15% if your shop made under $10,000 in the last 365 days, 12% once you have passed that threshold. The fee never exceeds $100 on a single order. Shops under $10,000 can opt out; shops that reach $10,000 are in the program at 12% for the life of the shop. We cover this in detail in Etsy Offsite Ads explained.
Currency conversion: 2.5%
If you list in a currency other than your payment account's currency, for example listing in USD while your account is in TRY, Etsy charges 2.5% on the sale to convert the funds. Etsy recommends listing in your account currency to avoid it.
Regulatory operating fee
Sellers in some countries pay an extra percentage on the item price, shipping and gift wrap to cover local regulatory costs. Rates Etsy lists include the UK at 0.48%, Canada at 0.50%, Italy at 0.80%, Spain at 0.88%, France at 1.14%, Turkey at 1.67% and Hungary at 1.97%. US and German sellers do not pay it.
Taxes on fees
Etsy's fees are listed without VAT. Depending on where your shop is based, VAT or a similar tax may be added to the fees themselves.
Optional costs you choose
- Etsy Ads: you set a daily budget and pay when shoppers click your promoted listings on Etsy.
- Etsy Plus: $10 per month for extra tools and credits.
- Pattern: your own website built from your Etsy shop, $15 per month after a free trial.
- Set-up fee: a one-time charge some new shops see during onboarding.
A worked example
A US shop sells a $24.99 T-shirt and charges $5.99 for shipping, so the buyer pays $30.98 before tax.
- Listing fee: $0.20
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of $30.98 = $2.01
- Payment processing: 3% of $30.98 + $0.25 = $1.18
Etsy's total is about $3.39. If the shirt costs $11.50 to produce, $4.95 to ship and $0.40 to package, the shop keeps about $10.74, a 34.7% margin.
If the same order came through an Offsite Ad at 15%, another $4.65 would come off, leaving about $6.09. That is why it pays to price with Offsite Ads in mind if you have not opted out.
